A liquid radioactive waste neutralization method

Methods typically used for liquid radioactive waste neutralization include ultra-filtration of the treated solution and radioactive processing of the obtained concentrate by means of a gamma radiation source. In the new technology, a hydrogen peroxide in the amount enough to establish the ratio of surface-active substance (SAS) to H2O2 as 1 : (0.3-0.4) is to be introduced in the solution before the radioactive processing. In the radioactive processing, hydrogen peroxide in 2-3 equal parts in each 100 kGr is additionally introduced in the solution to ensure the final ratio SAS:H2O2=1:1.2. After completion of the radioactive processing, the concentrate obtained is boiled down to produce a cubic residue, which is then directed for further solidification, and a condensate, which is then mixed with a cleaned ultra-filtered washing solution suitable for re-use.

The second modification relates to a process when a solution containing a cesium radionuclide is treated. In this case, nickel or copper ferrocyanide is preliminary added in the solution before ultra-filtration.
