Latest Inventions Metallurgy A METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF NIOBIUM-TITANIUM ALLOY-BASED SUPER-CONDUCTIVE WIRES
A
method of manufacture of niobium-titanium alloy-based super-conductive wires
A method applied today includes
placement of niobium-titanium alloy-based blank in a copper or copper-based
glass, sealing, hot extrusion and cold deformation to produce a rod, cutting of
the said rod to parts, consequent assembly of separate rod parts in the copper
or copper-based glass to obtain the required number of niobium-titanium fibers
in the last composite blank, cold deformation, annealing and final deformation.
In the newly-developed method,
rods placed in the last composite blank are preliminary subjected to cold
deformation with intermediate annealing at the temperature of 385-420° C within
10 to 100 hours. After that, the last composite blank is subjected to cold
deformation in a way that total deformation value would cover all available gaps
(but not less than 10%). Additional annealing is conducted at certain
temperature and time modes which correspond to intermediate annealing mode.
