A method to prevent collision of helicopters with high voltage transmission lines

In the methods applied today to prevent collision of a helicopter with high voltage transmission lines, a receiving device installed in a helicopter is used to accept electromagnetic oscillations.

In accordance with the newly-patented method, electromagnetic oscillations are received in radio wave bands emitted by high voltage transmission lines. Electromagnetic oscillations coming up from different directions are captured by a set of receiving aerials, whose radiation pattern maximum is oriented in different angle sectors of the helicopter flight plane. Based on a signal caught by a receiving aerial, angular position of a high voltage transmission line in relation to the helicopter body is determined. The signal value received is compared with a base voltage which corresponds to the relative electromagnetic field intensity, emitted by a high voltage transmission line at a given distance from it. Based on the results of the comparison, a decision on correcting the course of the helicopter is then taken.
