New
Equipment For Treating Sewage And Technological Fluids
The equipment in question,
gravitational dynamic separators (GD-separators), allows for effective
separation of the various mixtures and emulsions formed by such combinations of
liquids and water and petroleum, fats and water, and oil and water.
This new equipment is designed to
prevent sources of water from becoming polluted, to resolve technological
problems, and to treat sewage and separate it from petroleum, petroproducts,
fats, oil and grease. It is also designed to separate petroleum and
technological hydrocarbon raw materials from water, and detergents from
undissolved petroproducts.
GD-separators are based on the
principle of gravitational dynamics which provides for a dynamic filtration of
particles of the liquid phase which is subject to separation from the main bulk
of the liquid through a coalescent liquid filter mounted inside the separator,
the destruction of water globules and the gravitational separation of water and
petroproducts.
In contrast to other well-known
devices, e.g. hydrocyclones, thin-walled settling tanks and flotation plants,
GD-separators operate effectively with a 20-100 mg/liter range of emulsion
content achieving a 90-97% separation of petroproducts. Within the above range
the content of petroproducts can be varied at will. In these conditions, other
types of analogous equipment would, as a rule, be “flooded”, show reduced
effectiveness or break down in other ways.
The characteristics of
GD-separators can be successfully combined with equipment designed for a finer
separation of emulsions, i.e., that based on sorption, filtration,
electrochemical process and other types of equipment. Such equipment requires
that before feeding into it the liquids subject to treatment, the content of
petroproducts should be reliably reduced to the very low level established.
Of relatively lower cost,
GD-separators are much more reliable and effective (a 95-99% separation is
achieved). Unlike their analogs, moreover, they provide for a separation of
liquids with free content of liquid phases, including the simultaneous
separation of one liquid from the other.
GD-separators are low electric
energy consumers. Not do they require expendable materials and reagents. They
are easily accessible for cleaning. GD-separators can be shaped to best meet the
requirements for their location.
Priority areas for the promising
use of GD-separators are:
- Separation of sewage in all types of transport
repair shops in metal working and machine-building enterprises in order to
establish closed water-use systems and systems for collecting used
petroproducts;
- Collection of spilled petroleum and
petroproducts; planned cleaning of sedimentation tanks, oil catchers, tanks
for temporary storage of petroproducts in oil extracting and processing
enterprises, and in other industries (GD-separators are used on a base of
mobile stations analogous to plants used by HERM.J.HELLMERS GMBH of Germany
and ARMUTECH of the US);
- Preliminary separation of petroleum from water
during the extraction and processing.
Some samples of GD-separators
have successfully been tested in oil-extracting and processing enterprises,
repair shops of railway and automobile transports, the building and
petrochemical industries, in a food raw materials processing plant, and in
restaurants, cafeterias and canteens.
