Installation for Thermal Desalination of Natural and Sewage Water

A small residential district, a large industrial factory and individual consumers in areas with saline water reserves can obtain from 2001 up to 100 m3 of fresh water per day using environmentally-safe single-stage installations for thermal desalination, developed on the basis of advances in the design, manufacture and operation of evaporating systems designed for spacecraft thermal control. In addition, the installations can be successfully used to obtain distilled water, purify salt-containing sewage water, concentrate production solutions in metallurgy, energy generation, in electroplating, and in chemical and other industries.

The installations are easily maintained and operated. The cost of repair and reconditioning work is minimal. The installation makes the best use of evaluated technical decisions and commercial units. The capital expenditures for these installations are one-eighth or one-tenth compared to existing multi-stage evaporators.

 As compared to installations of similar output manufactured by other companies the thermal desalination installations have the following advantages:

  • power consumption is smaller by a factor 1.5 ... 2.5;
  • purification degree is 99.9 ... 99.99%;
  • environmentally - safe energy carrier;
  • discharge of salt-containing concentrate is smaller by a factor of 5 ... 25.

Use of thermal desalination installations with a solar energy source provides additional reduction of power consumption by 20 ... 35%.

In accordance with the customer's wishes modules of output from 200 I. up to 10OmVday can be manufactured.

Estimated cost of the installations depending on output and construction option ranges from 4,000 to 80,000 US dollars.

Expenditures for acquiring technical desalination installations are repaid, by independent experts' estimations, within 1.5...2 years.
