A method of steel plates hardening

To harden steel plates, shot treatment is typically used.

According to the new technology, small and large shots are sequentially used for this treatment. At the fist stage of the treatment steel plates are treated with a large shots with a diameter of 2.0 mm to 3.0 mm to obtain required plastic deformation intensity in the center of the dents which should be equal to the maximum uniform deformation of the material being hardened. Then plates are subjected to uniform plastic deformation through extending to the residual deformation value of 0.5 to 1.0%, and residual stresses are taken off. Then, second stage of the treatment goes. The plates are treated with a small-sized shuts with a diameter of 1.0 mm to 1.5 mm to obtain stress intensity in the center of the dents which should be equal to the yield stress value of the plates reinforced at the first treatment stage.

Another modification of the method provides for treating plates that work under variable loads.
