Pregnant women underestimate a lack of iodine in organism

Gynecologists point out that pregnant women and mothers who have just born a child consume few iodine-containing products and vitamins. Newly-completed researches have shown that only 60% of pregnant women and only 21% of just-born mothers additionally eat iodine-containing drugs and products to cover an increased organism’s requirement for this chemical element.

In ordinary food iodine is contained only in negligible amounts. To cover a daily requirement of 230-260 mg of iodine, pregnant women and just-born mothers would have drunk 6 liters of pure milk or eaten more than 6 kg of potato every day.

Thus, a daily consumption of over 200 mg of iodine contained in a proper pill is a good solution to prevent mother and child’s thyroid illness development, reduce risk of hypothyroid (thyroids with insufficient secretion) and avoid other newborn baby’s diseases.

To buy iodized pills is cheaper, than to buy a complete set of food containing the required quantity of iodine. Beside iodized pills, ordinary food allows to add up iodine amount in the organism. To reach success, it’s recommended to eat sea fish twice a week, drink lots of milk and milk-derived products, using only iodized salt as a condiment.
