Scientific News Automotive industry POLYETHYLENE AS A NEW FUEL
Polyethylene
as a new fuel
A
new internal combustion engine working on polyethylene has been designed and
manufactured in Russia. For the time being, there’s a lot of information
available only on another design, a hydrogen engine. It’s known that hydrogen
is a very flowing substance that easily penetrates into any micro fracture.
Besides, hydrogen is extremely explosive.
The principle of operation of the
new engine is given below. Combustible gas is directly released in the engine
from burning polyethylene, i.e. polyethylene is a fuel for this engine. A strip
of ordinary polyethylene is heated and emits a combustible gas (ethylene,
propylene, methane) which is immediately burnt in a special chamber. Various
types of this engine for vehicles, helicopters and planes have been developed.
In aviation engine, granulated polyethylene is used instead of polyethylene
strip. According to the engine developers’ opinion, engines burning
polyethylene, save Russia from petrol deficiency, since polyethylene is produced
from natural gas. If vehicles are shifted to polyethylene fuel, both the economy
and ecology will benefit, since natural gas burns out completely.
