ALUMINIUM-BASE COMPOSITE MATERIALS (AL/SIC)

THESE MATERIALS ARE MANUFACTURED USING PM METHODS. SEMIPRODUCTS AND COMPONENTS ARE PRODUCED BY HOT EXTRUSION AND FORGING. THEY FIND A WIDE APPLICATION IN VARIOUS FIELDS OF TECHNOLOGY:

  • aerospace (fin spars, undercarriage, load-carrying structures of electrical equipment, floor plates, trusses and beams of the airframe, forged stabilizers, airbrakes and some others);

  • motor industry (internal combustion engine components: pistons, connecting rods, cylinder sleeves, brake disks);

  • instrument engineering;

  • sports equipment (tennis-rackets, frames and wheels of sports and road bicycles and some others).

Maximum dimensions of billets:

  • diameter — 350 mm

  • height — 800 mm

  • weight — 170 kg.

BY VARIATION OF REINFORCEMENT CONTENT IN THE RANGE OF 15-30 MASS % AS WELL AS OF CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF MATRIX MATERIAL IT IS POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THE FOLLOWING PROPERTIES OF THE FINISHED PRODUCTS:

  • UTS — 480-600 MPa;

  • 0.2 % YS – 410-510 MPa;

  • El - 4-7%;

  • HB – 1300-2000 MPa;

  • MODULUS OF ELASTICITY – 90-120 GPa;

  • DENSITY - 2.78-2.9 g/cm3;

  • COEFFICIENT OF LINEAR EXPANSION – 13-18x10-6 s-1 (T=20-100oC).

LOW CYCLE FATIGUE RESISTANCE AND FRACTURE TOUGHNESS AT 20oC ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • s = 160 MPa,

  • N > 5x105 CYCLES,

  • K1c=27 MPaÖm.

RANGE OF PRODUCTS:

  • bars up to 120 mm in diameter;

  • strips and panels;

  • tubes;

  • various thin-walled complex shapes.
