Scientific News Health care Contagions NEW IDEAS FOR FIGHTING WITH ENCEPHALITIS
New
ideas for fighting with encephalitis
Encephalitic danger has
already been following us for a long time, poisoning a carefree pleasure of
seeing beauties of Siberia and far East’s forests. Over the last years
encephalitic ticks have even coming up to the forests of the Moscow region.
Scientists of the Novosibirsk
Institute of Bio-organic Chemistry are involved in resolving the issue. So far,
vaccination actively used since the 1970s was the most efficient way to
counteract the disease. Unfortunately, this measure is rather expensive and not
too effective.
Scientists of the Institute has
proposed another approach, and now they have been working on developing a new
vaccination technology.
The idea of the latter is to
obtain “purified” virus genes by gene engineering methods that will ensure
achievement of complete success. The only disadvantage of the newly-proposed
technology is a lack of knowledge of gene vaccine influence on a man’s
organism and uncertainty about the time required to prove harmlessness of the
method.
