  TAI-CHI BOOSTS IMMUNITY: STUDY
The Chinese exercise practice of Tai-Chi can significantly boost the body's immune system response to virus infection and may, in particular, help ward off painful shingles outbreaks in older people, a new study has found.

  INTERMITTENT SUN A PROBLEM FOR SKIN CANCER
Sitting behind your desk all week and then spending your weekends out in the sun is more likely to give you skin cancer than getting the same amount of sun spread out over the week. This is the message behind a series of public lectures that summarise the last 100 years of research into the causes of cancer, being held over the next month at the University of Sydney.

  IS THIS THE CELL THAT COULD REVOLUTIONISE MEDICINE?
IT MIGHT turn out to be the most important cell ever discovered. It's a stem cell found in adults that can turn into every single tissue in the body. Until now, only stem cells from early embryos were thought to be able to do this. If the finding is confirmed, it will mean cells from your own body could one day be turned into all sorts of perfectly matched replacement tissues and even organs.

  HUMAN GENE IMPLICATED IN MELANOMA
Research in mice has drawn a direct link between a human gene and the risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. A team led by Professor Marcos Malumbres from the National Centre of Investigative Oncology in Spain found that genetically engineered mice with a mutation in the gene, known as Cdk4, were more likely to develop melanomas when exposed to cancer-causing agents.

  SKIN ILLNESSES OF UNKNOWN ETHIOLOGY: IT'S HARD TO FIND THE ROOTS OF THEIR ORIGIN
In this group, a number of mass illnesses, whose origin reasons are still unclear, have been gathered. The study of common reasons, encouraging the development of the skin illnesses (including a genetic level), will help to completely treat these illnesses and eliminate the possibility of the development of some diseases in principle. One illness of this category is a herpetiform dermatosis (During’s disease). The disease belongs to a group of chronically-passing illnesses, with bubbles being the main morphologic manifestation of the disease on a skin. The disease is met people of different ages, from a baby to the elderly, with an equal frequency of appearance among men and women. As children are concerned, the disease passes innocently and usually disappears when youngsters reach the puberty age. The disease is caused by immune system abnormality connected with an increased sensitivity to gluten (grass protein) and disorder in its digestion.

  USE OF NAIL LACQUER LEADS TO WOMAN'S EXANTHEMA DEVELOPMENT
If a woman has got exanthema, nail lacquer is a possible reason of it. In Germany, 24 nail lacquers were tested. It was found that 7 out of 24 lacquers contained synthetic resins which cause allergy.
