| The GIS 'Fishery Resources of Russia' was designed for information support of decision making in rational exploitation of national fishery resources at the Federal level of management. The structure and functions of the GIS were determined by a system of fishery resources monitoring used in Russia.
The GIS contains general biological descriptions and color pictures of basic objects of Russian commercial and sport fishing, geomorphological and hydrological characteristics of lakes, rivers, reservoirs and detailed information on biology, fishery and environmental conditions for most important exploited stock units. Biological and fishery data are grouped by species, fish stock units, waterbodies and statistical fishing areas, categories of fishery (commercial or sport), types of fishing gear and years.
The GIS provides storage, treatment and analysis of the relevant information in correspondence with its geographical location. The attributive information can be visualized on digital maps or as more plain screen forms (texts, tables, graphs).
